Stateline Casino Wendover

The Stateline Casino started as a service station back in 1926 by William “Bill” Smith. When gambling was legalized in 1931, Bill added a hotel and casino. The unique part of the casino was that half was in Utah and half was in Nevada. Bill painted a line down the center and you could eat in Utah and step across the line and gamble in Nevada. Since 1952, the casino could be seen miles away because of the 63 foot cowboy “Wendover Will” pointing the way to state line. In 2002 the casino was sold and renamed the Stateline Nugget and in 2005 sold again and renamed The Wendover Nugget Hotel and Casino. Later that year the casino donated “Wendover Will” to the city of West Wendover and is now erected in the city center.
